Desktop as a Service (Daas) March 6, 2008
Desktop as a Service (Daas) is an innovative way to understand the management of desktops, as a consequence of the market evolution. Any company will have the opportunity to use desktops, on a monthly price basis, with more control over the end-user, secure, flexible and with agility for business growth regardless of the technology.
Based on application streaming and virtualization technology, DaaS provides specific solutions for each market segment, eliminating all the drawbacks of the current management of desktops, allowing the standardization of the client site by providing a stable workplace environment and an always updated desktop in terms of software and security.

This service, is it related to VDI? Do you think this technology is mature enough to provide a reliable service?
Do specific software needs (like law ruled or bespoke apps) of companies are also supported?. From a personal experience, this service must be delivered with a strong Top Quality & Mature Technical Team, focused on service, that’s the key to achieve the success.
DaaS is a new breed of product. We have been doing extenstive testing with it. To answer your question John, it is VDI. The business model at this point only allows for internal use, due to licencing. Microsoft SPLA agreement does not allow for DaaS, unless it is from one internal busness orginization to another. The “work around” we are looking into is “leasing” or “renting” the thin clients to the end user customer, which SPLA allows for in the rental arena.
I would love to hear from any other orginizations that are thinking about offering DaaS, and how they are going to licence the desktop OS.
I have not had any issues with different 3rd party apps, and even AV works great in the stream….
Hi, we have been offering this servive to our clients for some ime now without any issues. We but the licencing and then offer the desktop as a service to clients, on a citrix platform. We have not had any issues with publishing apps and the platform looks after itself when set up right.
Hello, we believe that desktop as a services will be based on web 2.0 technologies and capable of streaming applications into the desktop based on the underlying technology. To provide DaaS in this manner will 1) reduce licensing costs associated with Windows and the desktop 2) scale because Windows is not the underlying architecture 3) allow desktop application delivery to include web, Windows, and hosted applications
